Mer använd forskning gör samhället robust

Forskning som kommer till nytta kan bidra till bättre beredskap för kriser inom många sektorer i samhället. Det menar Tony Sandberg, som är en av dem som funderat på lämpligt tema för IVAs 100-lista år 2021.

Diversity for university

Hur ser lärosätena i Sverige på begreppet mångfald? Med detta projekt vill IVAs Studentråd bredda synen och diskussionen om mångfald inom högre utbildning som annars ofta tenderar att stanna vid genus och etnicitet. Genom att kartlägga lärosätenas mångfaldssatsningar, lyfta goda exempel och egna tankar vill Studentrådet inspirera och pusha lärosäten till fortsatt progressivt mångfaldsarbete.

Professor Peter Hedström, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, tilldelas Chester Carlsons forskningspris på 100 000 kr, för sin forskning där han sammanför stort kunnande inom metalliska material med artificiell intelligens.

Kraftsamla för klimatet

För att kunna möta avgörande klimatmål, både globala och nationella, måste vi jobba med omställningen på alla fronter. Som en student på en av projektets workshops uttryckte det: “Alla måste gå före”. I detta projekt arbetade Studentrådet med att få samtliga aktörer i samhället - företag, organisationer, myndigheter och individer, sistnämnda speciellt i sina arbetsroller, att utöva klimatledarskap.

Smart landsbygd

Diskursen om digitaliseringens effekter på samhället paketeras ofta i begreppet Smarta städer. Däremot speglar inte det stadscenterande begreppet de samtida befolkningsströmningarna. Att digitalisera har visat sig vara inte bara en möjliggörare för ny livsstil men också nödvändigt för att kunna bemöta framtidens utmaningar. I en allt mer digitaliserad värld kommer därmed strålkastarljuset riktas mot Sveriges landsbygd. Men vi i IVAS Studentråd ställer oss frågan hur utvecklingen går idag.

Åke Spross tilldelas IVAs pris för vetenskaplighet inom journalistiken

IVAs pris för vetenskaplighet inom journalistiken – Hans Bergström-priset delas ut för femte gången. Pristagare för 2019 är Åke Spross, medicin- och vetenskapsreporter på Upsala Nya Tidning. I sin motivering lyfter juryn fram att han med perspektiv från en lokaltidning lyckats bevaka en hel värld av vetenskap och forskning.

Galler gav Garantell guld

Det blev Garantell från Värnamo som vann den tredje omgången av IVAs företagstävling Smart industri. De fick priset för att enligt juryn ”på ett framgångsrikt sätt använt många av digitaliseringens möjligheter för att möta varje kunds unika behov av lösningar i metallnät”.

During IVA's 104th Annual Meeting, more than 600 guests gathered in Stockholm's city hall to celebrate the art of engineering sciences. We welcomed new fellows, awarded gold medals and listened to the President's address Progress in Research and Technology.

2025 Hans Werthén Scholars

Ten young researchers and students residing in Sweden have been awarded this year's scholarships from the Hans Werthén Foundation, for studies and research abroad. The scholarships are granted with the aim of giving young academics the opportunity to develop in other countries and return with new knowledge and experience that can benefit Sweden.

The delegation, led by HM The King and IVA's Chair Marcus Wallenberg, consisted of leading representatives from academia, business and the public sector in Sweden. The focus of the trip was AI, quantum technology and cybersecurity.

Astronaut Marcus Wandt, one of this year's Thulin medallists

The Aviation and Aerospace Engineering Association (FTF) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) have awarded this year's Thulin Gold Medal to Swedish astronaut Marcus Wandt. Engineers Daniel Eckerström and Roy Kihlén are awarded silver medals for their efforts in the development of fiber optic temperature measurement systems, which have contributed to increasing safety in civil aviation.

AI in focus when IVA delegation visits Silicon Valley

A delegation from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) visits Silicon Valley on February 19–22. Parts of the visit take place in the presence of DD.KK.HH. The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel. The goal is to increase cooperation opportunities between Silicon Valley and Sweden and, by extension, strengthen Sweden's position in digitization and AI.

"Sweden and the EU need to invest more in AI"

In order for Sweden to be able to maintain its competitiveness in the future, we need to invest more in AI development and innovation. This insight was reinforced for IVA's Chair Marcus Wallenberg, who led IVA's delegation trip to Silicon Valley, where around thirty people from industry, startups, investors, academia and the public sector participated, in the presence of The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel, as well as Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell.

A Tribute to the Memory of Victor & Erna Hasselblad

The images of man's first steps on the moon in 1969 are among the most iconic in the history of photography. The moment was immortalized with a "Hasselblad", a Swedish technical innovation whose name subsequently became more or less synonymous with the concept of the world's best camera.

Joakim Nivre granted the Chester Carlson Research Award

Professor Joakim Nivre has been granted the Chester Carlson Research Award of 100,000 SEK for his innovative contributions to computational linguistics, his leadership in the research community, and his commitment to language technology through collaboration. The award has been granted since 1985 to promote scientific research in the field of information science.
