Professor Joakim Nivre has been granted the Chester Carlson Research Award of 100,000 SEK for his innovative contributions to computational linguistics, his leadership in the research community, and his commitment to language technology through collaboration. Sweden remains at the top of the EU's innovation countries

The other week, the EU's annual list of Europe's top innovation countries, the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS), was published. For the second year in a row, Sweden ranks second on the list, behind Denmark. IVA spotlight on: Swedish technology paves the way for offshore wind power

Offshore wind power on a large scale has long been identified as one of the solutions for achieving the green transition. Report: Increased need for metals and minerals – strategies, conflicts of objectives and interests

Sweden needs a new mineral strategy to manage the increased extraction of metals and minerals that the transition to a fossil-free and sustainable society entails. The strategy needs to take the increased demands as a starting point and manage the conflicts of objectives and interests that these entail. Not least, communities with mining operations need to be better compensated than they currently are. Astronaut Marcus Wandt, one of this year's Thulin medallists

The Aviation and Aerospace Engineering Association (FTF) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) have awarded this year's Thulin Gold Medal to Swedish astronaut Marcus Wandt. Engineers Daniel Eckerström and Roy Kihlén are awarded silver medals for their efforts in the development of fiber optic temperature measurement systems, which have contributed to increasing safety in civil aviation.

This insight was reinforced for IVA's Chair Marcus Wallenberg, who led IVA's delegation trip to Silicon Valley, where around thirty people from industry, startups, investors, academia and the public sector participated, in the presence of The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel, as well as Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell.

AI in focus when IVA delegation visits Silicon Valley

A delegation from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) visits Silicon Valley on February 19–22. Parts of the visit take place in the presence of DD.KK.HH. The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel. The goal is to increase cooperation opportunities between Silicon Valley and Sweden and, by extension, strengthen Sweden's position in digitization and AI.
