Governance and management

IVA’s operations and mandate are regulated by the Academy’s statutes. IVA is governed by a Presidium that serves as the Academy’s board. The highest decision-making body at IVA is the Assembly of the Academy. IVA’s Secretariat and the Secretariat’s management team work to support the Academy’s operational activities, as well as driving development and change management work.

The Student Council is a meeting place for socially engaged engineering and economics students who want to help develop ideas for Sweden’s future, by taking part in IVA’s discussions and work.

The Business Executives Council roots IVA in the business community, making it an essential part of the Academy. The members make a strong contribution to the work of the Academy, and have considerable scope to influence issues in areas such as business, education and research policy.

The Academy’s Divisions

IVA’s approximately 1,000 Swedish Fellows are divided into 12 Divisions. The Divisions monitor and work on current issues in their specific fields, not least by organising seminars and other activities.

The history of IVA

Sweden’s second youngest Royal Academy, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), was founded as recently as 1919, but is nevertheless the world’s oldest engineering academy.

The Academy

IVA has approximately 1,300 elected Swedish and international Fellows, along with 250 member companies on the Business Executives Council. We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement. IVA’s patron is HM The King.

Resilient Digital Infrastructure
